Local
Archguitarist, Peter Blanchette,
Plays on Thursday Evenings
Chances are, you’ve already heard the
music of Peter Blanchette.
Blanchette is the inventor of the archguitar, an
eleven-stringed instrument with a greatly expanded musical
range. He has performed live on the NPR programs: A
Prairie Home Companion, All Things Considered,
WNYC’s New Sounds, Soundboard, and Performance
Today. His recordings are often heard on radio programs
such as Sunday Baroque, The Thistle and Shamrock
and locally on WFCR. His many CDs of solo and ensemble music
on Dorian Recordings and AGM have sold hundreds of thousands
of copies.
As a composer, Peter has contributed to
the acclaimed television programs HBO's Sex and the City, and
PBS' Inside the Tuscan Hills. In addition, he is a
Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Grant Recipient for his
orchestral works and recordings of crossover classical-Jazz
compositions. Many of his recordings feature his Virtual
Consort ensemble--an “imaginary orchestra” consisting of
Blanchette playing multiple overdubs of various plucked
instruments, along with his archguitar, often adding a
featured vocal or instrumental soloist.
We are delighted to present Peter
Blanchette, live with his archguitar, Thursday nights from
6-9:30 at Carmelina’s.

The Legendary
Emery Smith Plays Jazz on the Weekends
Live from
New York City every
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night, you will enjoy the
ever-tasteful music of renowned jazz pianist, Emery Austin
Smith. Completing his 23rd year at Carmelina’s,
Emery has performed with many jazz greats including Dizzy
Gillespie, Howard McGhee, and Henry Red Allen during his
distinguished career. Emery, a jazz historian, calls himself
the 'Original Hobo' and has performed in
New York at the
Metropole, Sign of the Dove, and the Sugar Bar. You can hear
Emery weekdays in
New York at the
Oaks or Arthur's Tavern, but every weekend we are blessed to
have him here at Carmelina’s.
Playing music from "The Great American
Songbook", you'll enjoy listening to the tunes of Ellington,
Gershwin, Cole Porter, Fats Waller, and Thelonious Monk as
Emery plays on the baby grand in our main dining room,
affectionately called the “piano room”. From time to time,
Emery’s jazz musician friends stop in to play a surprise
impromptu session! We hope you’re fortunate enough to have a
seat in the room when that happens. |
